Creating your zap
Once you logged into your Zapier account, click on the "+ Create Zap" button in your dashboard.
With Zapier Web Service it is possible to link applications together such as SMSFactor and a variety of social media networks. We chose Twitter for our educationnal purposes but you can do the same with Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest and many more.
Several triggers are available for Twitter, here we will cover how to warned when a specific user tweets. Feel free to try the other triggers such as :
– be warned through SMS when someone tweeted a specific term. (your username for instance). You can even restrain to an area (France and the PACA region for example).
– receive a text message telling you that you have a new follower.
Once you logged into your Zapier account, click on the "+ Create Zap" button in your dashboard.
Through the trigger's window search bar, look for the social media app of your choice and select it.
From the dropdown list, choose a trigger. In this tutorial we chose "User Tweet" (specific user tweeted).
The "Search Mention" / "Search & Geo Mention" are other interesting options because the could trigger an SMS when a user mentions your name. Of course triggers won't be the same for each social media.
Select your Twitter account. If this is your first time using this social media in Zapier then click on "Connect a new account".
Insert the username of whom you want to be warned when he/she releases a new tweet.
If the specified user has tweeted recently (one year ago at most) then test your trigger. Otherwise just skip to access the next step.
If your test succeeded then this kind of message should appear.
In the search bar from the action panel, search for SMSFactor and choose the Newer Available version.
From the dropdown list, select "Send SMS".
Select your account or "+Create new account" if this is your first time using our solution.
1-Message : information contained in the SMS you'll recieve. Choose between :
-"Text" first lines of the tweet
-"Full text" entire tweet
-"URL" link to the tweet
or any of the other options.
2-Message Push Type : Select "alert". The "marketing" option forbids sending on sundays and between 10 PM and 8 AM the other days.
3-Date to send : leave the default value "1 minute from now" as it is.
4-Sender : sender name shown at the top of your SMS notification. This field isn't mandatory however we reccomend to insert the username in this case. Do not exceed 11 caracters.
5-GSM Number : insert your phone number.
Test your action to make sure everything works fine. As explained earlier, this requires that the specified Twitter user has tweeted at least once this year.
If your test succeeded then this kind of confirmation should appear. If not, try again or get back to the previous steps.
Congratulations ! Press the "Publish" button to turn on your zap and done !
Your Zap is registered and activated, and all you have to do is be ready and start to Tweet !
